Episode 06: Toronto Koreatown

K-beauty, pancakes, and hot pots, oh my!

How to make the most of Toronto’s Koreatown? Well, first off, I think you might need more than one day, which is why this video is part one of exploring the area.

Second, I suggest you arrive hungry, and check it out with friends as it’s a great place to meet up for some hot pot, karaoke, or to pick up some sweets on your way to Christie Pits Park.

Personally, I enjoy taking a walk from the intersection of Bathurst and Bloor St. to Christie and Bloor St.

Bathurst Station is where Koreatown starts and the Annex ends along Bloor Street West. According to Google Maps, walking from Bathurst to Christie station only takes seven minutes. However, there’s lots of hidden gems along the way.

In this video I share with you cute boutiques for buying unique home goods and clothes, where I go for my authentic Korean hot pot, and where to find Korean desserts: Hodo Kwaja!

I wasn’t surprised at all that Korean food is delicious and exactly what I needed on a cold day. Also, because I don’t eat meat, I like that Korean cuisine also has lots of veggie-friendly or seafood options containing tofu, if that is a concern for you too.

Who doesn’t love a good hot pot?

What did surprise me was that I actually found really incredible Colombian coffee in the heart of Koreatown! I did not expect that at all, and it just goes to show how multicultural Toronto is.

Back in my flight attendant days, I used to fly to Bogotá, Colombia pretty often. I can confirm that the Colombian coffee at Ave Maria Latin Cafe is authentic and worth it if you love a good cup of coffee. What I might not suggest is having a spicy cheese empanada with it unless you want a heart attack (see: video).

Have you had Hodo Kwaja or real Colombian coffee? What surprised you the most?

I’d love to know! Let me know in the video comments and be sure to subscribe to the channel and my newsletter below so you never miss a video!
