Episode 05: Want to know a secret?
When it comes to big cities, there’s the big tourist attractions and the hidden gems. Both add to the city, but the hidden pockets of culture and creativity are where the magic of the city is. Usually you need a local to take you to these places. Luckily, you guys have me!
In Toronto, many of the hidden gems are unbeknownst even to locals. In this episode we discuss a whole secret neighborhood: Baldwin Village!
Part of the reason this neighborhood is unknown to anyone but locals is due to its size. It is only one street long, but trust me when I say it is worth a visit. Personally, I think it’s an amazing spot in the summertime as it is very walkable and a nice in-between the University of Toronto Campus and the AGO, Kensington or Chinatown.
However, in this video I show you how to enjoy it in the winter too!
The reason I think Baldwin Village deserves a mention are the food options. Oddly enough, it is three blocks of eateries. Ramen, sushi, coffee, Thai cuisine, ice cream? All there. And more.
I’m not sure how such a small area was filled with so many businesses, but I’m not complaining. It’s a great place to check out with a friend or by yourself if you’re looking to spice things up with something special and unique.
As you can see in the photos, we ate really well in this video. My friend Lawrence filmed as I led you all on a little journey into Baldwin Village from St. Patrick subway. In the video we head to the AGO, Bau-Xi art gallery (pronounced “Bo-shi”), up Beverley Street, to Koh Lipe Thai Restaurant, Carbonic Coffee and vintage shopping. A packed itinerary for such a tiny area.
