Episode 03: Emmer Toronto
When it comes to French baked goods, Toronto is #blessed. The city has a large community of French expats, and finding the real deal is as easy as knowing where to go. My recommendation? Truthfully, I could make a whole video on the best croissants in Toronto, and someday I might. A great place to start though is Emmer Toronto. Why? Because they really are made with love.
The owner and creator of this amazing bakery is actually a dentist by trade who began sharing his breads through an Instagram account over the pandemic. Dr. Philip Haddad’s breads and goods gained so much popularity that Emmer Toronto opened its brick-and-mortar to daily lines around the corner in 2021, and his business has been beloved ever since.
Would you believe he’s still a dentist? This passion project really took a life of its own!
After years of cooking for personal satisfaction, under the tutelage of French mentors and masters of baking in his personal time, Dr. Haddad’s excellence elevated simple sourdough into an art. His bakery partners with other well-known culinary champions in town as well, and the pain au chocolat for example is a collaboration with SOMA chocolatemaker, one of the city’s best chocolate shops (which I shared with you in another episode).
The desserts are delicious and as you can see in the video I really enjoyed them! They regularly sell out of many baked goods and my recommendation to you is to head there at least 30 minutes before opening time to make sure you are able to score some hard-to-get treats, like the famed pistachio croissant, before the rest of Toronto gets it first!
Have you tried any of these delicious treats? What was your favorite?
